We started Sail East Charters to share our passion for sailing with anyone who wants to experience the joy that comes from moving gracefully with the wind.
Whether you want to actively participate in the sailing, or just kick back with a drink in your hand and the breeze in your face, it’s completely up to you.
We’d like to invite you aboard Truant, our beautiful J/42 yacht. We are looking forward to sharing our little slice of sailing heaven with you.
I first discovered sailing in college, where I learned how to sail on small dinghies and catamarans. From there, I was hooked.
For the next 20 years I travelled the world as an advertising creative, plying my trade in California, Sweden and Holland before landing in Manhattan. Yet everywhere along the way, I would seek out a sailboat and go sailing.
Then in 2009 I moved to the East End of Long Island, promptly bought a 28’ daysailer and began sailing every chance I could. This went on for years, until I finally decided to turn my passion into something more. I got my USCG Master Captain certification and moved up to the boat of my dreams, Truant.
In 2016 I met Ewa, my girlfriend and partner on a sailing charter in the British Virgin Islands and we’ve been inseparable ever since. After numerous sailing adventures together, we both quickly realized we were happiest out on the water heading off towards the horizon. So we decided to do something about it, Sail East.
Truant is a meticulously-maintained 2001, J/42. A deep-keeled, 42’, sloop-rigged yacht that comfortably accommodates four adult passengers plus crew in style. She’s well-equipped for performance, dependability and safety. And when the wind dies down, she’s powered by a 56HP engine.
Under sail, Truant is one of the most capable sailboats of her size, making her ideal for sailing off in any direction, fast. Whether it’s off to a picnic lunch in Shelter Island’s serene Coecles Harbor or Sag Harbor for a round of sundowners, a nimble boat makes a big difference.
